Bishop Barrington
Constantine Hibbert was born in Jamaica, West Indies. He spent
his early childhood days in the rural section of the island
where he learned some of the basic rustic responsibilities of
life under the guidance of his sage grandmother, Grandma Susan
Mitchell. Many times he was given intricate chores, which he
mastered, that prepared him for the pastoral office he now
occupies. During his early pre-teens he moved to the city of
Kingston and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy,
where he accepted salvation and began to serve the Lord..
From his
early days in the church Barrington Hibbert began to make a
difference. His spiritual fervor was recognized by the older
saints and as a result he was made a Sunday School teacher at
an early age. He then migrated to the United States in 1971 to
be with his parents in Paterson New Jersey.
His
arrival in Paterson did not deter, change, or decelerate his
desire to serve the Lord, and he then began to attend The
Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic). As a young man he
continued to live an exemplary life as a child of God at
school and outside of the church. Brother Barry (as he was
called) was not ashamed to be identified with Christ. Many
times, although he was put to the test by the enemy of soul,
he was victorious.
In the
church he became an active worker with the Young People’s
Department where he served as local president for 4 years and
international president for 3 years. He was the senior choir
director and also the Building Fund president. He was first
ordained as an Evangelist in 1978, then an Elder, an Overseer,
and finally a Bishop, an office he presently holds. During his
time at the church in Paterson, Bishop Hibbert traveled to
various foreign countries. His first foreign mission took him
to India in 1982. Subsequent foreign mission pilgrimages
brought him to Nigeria and Liberia on several occasions, as
well as various parts of India for a second visit.
Additionally, Bishop Hibbert has traveled extensively to
Canada, England, and various parts of the United States,
spreading the word of the kingdom of God. In 1997 he went half
way around the world to Hong Kong to preach the word of God.
As he shares his experience with the saints from time to time,
and recalls how he felt strange among the natives, and how he
journeyed late at night to the remote area he was staying. But
he had no regrets because he was doing the work of the Lord.
Bishop
Hibbert is a learned Bible teacher who loves to impart the
scriptures to his congregation and others. But if one should
comment on his knowledge of the scriptures, his response would
be that he has a lot more to learn; and he does take this
seriously. He is a dynamic preacher, and relies upon the Holy
Ghost for the anointing. He preaches the core message of
salvation to bring believers to Christ. He practices what God
demands His servants to do; be instruments to win souls for
Christ. He sees himself as one saved by Grace, and
incorporates this fact when reaching out to unsaved. He has a
great vision for the church, which extends outside the walls
of the building, touching lives that are in dire need of
salvation and comfort.
On the social side, Bishop
Hibbert has a great sense of humor. He loves to sing and sings
well. He is married to Erica C. Hibbert, and has two sons,
Barrington Clayon and Triston DiShawn. He holds a Bachelor of
Science in Organizational Management, Nyack College, Nyack.
NY, Master of Science, in Human Resource Management, New
Jersey Institute of Technology, (NJIT), Newark, New Jersey,
Masters of Science in Technology Management, Stevens Institute
of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey. And a well deserved
congratulation to Bishop Hibbert, who in 2005, received his
PhD in Theology from Trinity College & Seminary in Newburgh,
Indiana. He enjoys traveling and meeting people and quickly
assimilates into their culture. He loves to read, exercise,
and cook. Above all, Bishop Barrington Hibbert loves the Lord
with all His soul, heart, and mind
